Mio Zio’s Coffee started as MOLINARO COFFEE
HISTORY
Molinaro Coffee started itʼs life when the SPAGHETTI JUNCTION restaurant crew decided to have the best coffee possible to start the new century; so the coffee machine got set up, barista at hand, more than half dozen coffee drinkers gathered and started testing over ten of the best coffee beans available at the time.
After hours, some heated debates and lots of coffee drank, the unanimous choice was the ancestor of the present blend; the choice was made firstly on Taste and it also happened to be Organic and Fairtrade beans which added the elements of Equity and Sustainability to the already evident Quality.
Having made the happy decision we started using our beans at all Festivals and Functions we attended and the response has been great! In 2008 we took control of the importing, blending and roasting the beans and also decided to slowly introduce our coffee to a wider audience and so we started to retail in selected local shops.
We are continually encouraged by our coffee drinkers and strive to maintain and improve the quality, labeling, packaging and distribution.
Our Organically grown beans, all pure Arabica cultivar, are imported from countries like Ethiopia, Peru, Colombia, Honduras, East Timor and others, all grown at altitude (1400 to 3000 meters above sea level) which ensure slow growth and full flavour development, hand picked and processed by small holder farmers and marketed by local cooperatives, so ensuring a equal distribution of crops income.
Once in Australia we carefully blend the beans and as needed they are gently roasted to a medium roast to suit the characteristics flavour profile and achieve a strong yet smooth cup, naturally low in acidity, creamy and balanced body, long and pleasant aftertaste. We have also sourced and introduced our Single Origin beans, when an excellent one is available, for a diverse coffee experience, we had the coffee from #Jose Marel Portillo# farm in Honduras which was outstanding, and now the fantastic beans from Yirgacheffe cooperative in the Gedeo region in Southern Ethiopia (birthplace of coffee) have a beautiful sweet, floral and tropical fruit cup finish, in our opinion one of the best coffee in the world! (Available only at particular times)
Drinking this coffee also makes a contribution to #Grounds for health#, a program that continues to make a difference in women health in coffee growing regions worldwide. We also are proud to be part of the FAIRTRADE movement, were farmers in third world countries are paid a premium above market prices, so allowing better opportunities for their communities.
In early 2022 we moved to the beautiful Babinda ,near Cairns, and so we decided that the name for our beloved coffee also needed a change, we have started a small(very small!)catering business and called it Mio Zio’s Italian
street foods and the coffee got the name as well, our original blend is now Babinda’s blend,
more news to come soon
ENJOY!!
